I started my new job on Monday the 21st. Perks of the job include: big salary, great benefits, my own office, totally relaxed and quiet atmosphere, and project-based work (so the flux of new projects keeps me fully interested in what I'm doing).
Down sides ... I didn't get new office furniture like I thought, I got stuck with some old stuff. My supervisor is a pretty busy guy, so I've only spoken to him once for about an hour out of the 6 days I've been in the office. Everybody is far older than me.
My first project is interesting to me. I'm building a PHP web application to track Clinic sponsors for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. I get so engrossed in the PHP side of things that hours pass and I don't even notice. Today I stayed about 15 minutes late just because I didn't know what time it was.
All in all, though, I'm really enjoying it. My daily schedule is as follows:
6am - get up!
6:15am - go to the gym! (Mon, Wed, Fri - Weights. Tues Thurs Sat - Cardio.)
7:30am - shower at the gym, go to work!
8am - Noon - "He's a hardworkin' man... whoa oh!" etc.
Noon-1pm - Scrumptious lunch in the University Union
1pm - 5pm - Marathon coffee drinking contest, more hard work.
5pm - Drive home in my shiny new car. (Man I love that car.)
6pm - Cook dinner.
7pm - Hang out with my family, play video games, clean, do whatever I want.
11pm - Bed time.
That's a pretty good daily schedule - I'm comfortable with it so far. I'm even waking up a few minutes before my alarm goes off, which is a big sign that I'm getting enough sleep.
On Thursday, my couch and love seat set will be delivered. I just need a bookshelf or two and some wall decorations - and I'm completely moved in! I think my kitchen is finally fully-stocked, and it's only going to take me a few months to pay off all the shit I had to buy to fill my new apartment.
Let's see ... personal life - boring. I miss my Chinese friends. The only people I know in town so far are coworkers (who are all much older than me) and my family. I do like spending time with my family, but it'll be nice to meet some real friends who want to play poker and have dinner parties with me. I'm trying to meet some. I met a computer guy at the University who likes poker. I told him I'd email him if I can ever get a big enough group together to play.
My brother's friend gave him a free entertainment center to give to me. My coffee table and end tables are all black, so I may buy some veneer paint and cover it in black to match. Then all of my living room furniture and kitchen appliances will match wonderfully. My bedroom furniture is a little mish-mash, but that doesn't matter since I'm the only one who hangs out in my bedroom. (For now, at least.)
I want Dan to move to SLC, but he just signed a new lease with our friend Skyler. That sucks - it would b a lot easier to just recruit friends to SLC than to meet new ones. Maybe I should try working on some other friends and see who's willing to relocate for me.
Well, it's 11pm, and according to my above posted schedule, that means it's bed time! I'll try to slack off less in updating my blog. I always say that, but I never do it. This time, I surely will!
(Oh, downloaded a new band. Love em. Tilly and the Wall.)
